The art and science of pole dance

July 2, 2009

This is amazing. I never acquired the pole skill displayed here because I always had too many bruises on my thighs from trying. I did master the art of undulation, however, and maybe one day I will post a video of that here. But anyone who can watch this and deny that these women have amazing strength and athletic ability, not to mention pure artistic talent, is in denial. Amazing.

These women have amazing athletic skill and flexibility. I doubt I could ever hold on to a pole with my thighs, much less spin and smile, too.
Very weird choice of music for the video, though – I love Amy Lee, but that song is just about the complete opposite of celebrating empowered womanhood.

That ought to be an Olympic event!

As athletic and artistic as it might be, it isn’t what I’d call feminist.

Do the 8inch platform stillettos help their athleticism? I’m surprised none of these folks are wearing a sport corset. So when do we get to see the male competitors?

    *crickets*

Obviously there’s nothing demeaning about this if the guys are doing it too. Oh wait, they aren’t.

“Do the 8inch platform stillettos help their athleticism? I’m surprised none of these folks are wearing a sport corset.”

Oh dear. You’re sounding like a bitter old church mouse.

I suppose you’re against lipstick and push-up bras, too, Hazel. What a boring world this would be if we all wore burlap knapsacks.

      The men, you ask?

      Try this.
      And this.
      And this.

How do you like your crow prepared?

Just because you can wear high heels, a push up bra, and plenty of makeup for a special occasion or a night out or just because you want to doesn’t mean you would (or should) wear any of them while working out. Someone suggested this should be in the olympics- which I think would be cool- I didn’t realize that Olympic racers ran their marathons in heels.

And there is a GIANT gap with a wide variety of comfortable, functional, erotic, revealing, goofy, slinky, foofera, and just about every other kind of style you can think of between 8 inch stilettos and burlap sacks. Even 8 inch platform heels are included in that gap.

It’s amazing that a person can express disdain at entirely non-functional wear for something being called “athletic” and be labeled “a bitter old church mouse”.

Hazel, many men do pole dance. In addition to the youtube links that erotic posted, check out: http://www.polechampionship.com/ an International Pole Championship with a seperate division for men. A colleague of mine, Dave, won the title and you can see his performance highlights here http://www.polechampionship.com/#/dave-kahl/4539173114
