With Apple’s Power Comes Apple’s Responsibility.

If someone wrote a bigoted app for an open platform, it’s on the creator. But Apple has decided to arrogate to itself the power to approve or disapprove all applications for its mobile devices. Well, if they have the right to approve, they share responsibility for what they approve. What I’ve just learned that they approved is … not good. Flat out, no two ways about it, bigoted fetishizing mockery of trans women. From here, via Clarisse’s tweet:

an application called “PeekABooTranny,” that makes fake photobombs of “fierce trannies in hilarious poses” and promising “a tranny surprise in every shot!”

(I don’t need to explain what’s wrong with this, right? Tell me I don’t have to explain.)

They approve it, they endorse it. Whatever bullshit excuses they come up with are just noise; if they don’t want to be responsible for every app they have to have some objective policy instead of case-by-case review.
